LGN Co-Sponsors Technology Club for Girls

LGN is a co-sponsor to the GigaGirls after-school technology club for girls who recently toured the animation and interactive design studios of Puny Entertainment in Minneapolis. On the tour, the girls met with Puny’s Owner and Creative Director, Shad Petosky. He walked them through the studio and showed them some of Puny’s finished work and works-in-progress and gave them hands-on demonstrations of the technology involved in Puny’s creative process. The GigaGirls is organized and run by Holly Petersen, a technology support specialist at LGN, with cooperation from Saint Louis Park Junior High School.

MJF Summer Clerk Program

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is proud to continue its support of the Minnesota Justice Foundation by contributing to the 2008 Summer Clerkship Program. The Foundations co-founders, Rick Plunkett (past LGN associate) and Bob Long (present LGN partner), started this program 25 years ago as an opportunity for law students to practice public interest law and help those who might not otherwise receive representation.

LGN And The Bee

He Li of Central Middle School (Eden Prairie) emerged as the top speller at the 2008 Regional Spelling Bee sponsored by Lockridge Grindal Nauen on Thursday, March 13, at the Minnesota History Center. The firm will be sending He (with an adult) to compete at the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC the week of May 26, 2008.

Twenty-eight students from across the Metro area competed. Each of the spellers had been selected by his or her school to represent their school in the Regional Bee, and they worked their way through 12 rounds of increasingly difficult words to find the best spellers of the year.

Second place was awarded to Nathan Salo of Falcon Ridge Middle School (Apple Valley), and Savannah Lim of Nicollet Jr. High (Burnsville) received Third Place.

Chris Sandberg, the firm's partner who headed the team organizing the Regional Bee, said, "This was a great event, and I was impressed by the intensity and knowledge of the spellers. They really showed Minnesota youth at their best!"

The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program

EricC. Tostrud, LGN partner, has been recognized for his service to The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program.  He donated his services in a matter before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.  The mission of The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program is to ensure that a veteran or survivor who takes an appeal to the U.S. Court has competent representation.

Nauen to Help Plan Cardozo Society Annual Dinner

Charles N. Nauen, LGN partner, was part of the Twin Cities Cardozo Society's Annual Dinner Committee. The fall 2007 event honored three members of our legal community, Judge Allen Oleisky, Judge Rosanne Nathanson and Marty Chester, and was the kick-off event for the organization's 2008 programming year. The Twin Cities Cardozo Society is affiliated with the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and United Jewish Fund and Council of St. Paul.

United Jewish Fund and Council

Ambassador Naim was in St. Paul for the United Jewish Fund and Council's Men's Breakfast Series. He met with numerous groups over two days to tell the story of Ethiopian Jewry today. Read article.

Minnesota Mayors Celebrate Winter in St. Paul

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a sponsor of St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman's Minnesota Mayoral Winter Carnival Reception. On February 2, more than 100 mayors from across the state will be in St. Paul for the annnual community celebration of winter. Following the reception, the mayors and guests will march in the Winter Carnival's Vulcan Victory Torchlight parade.

LGN in League with Minnesota Cities

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a Business Associate member of the League of Minnesota Cities. The LMC represents more than 800 Minnesota cities and promotes excellent local government through policy development, advocacy, research and analysis, information sharing, education and training, and a variety of products and services.

Youth in Government

Lockridge Grindal Nauen has joined other members of the Minnesota Governmental Relations Council to support the YMCA Youth in Government program, an opportunity for young people to develop lifelong responsible citizenship skills.

Golf Classic Promotes Kidney Care

The National Kidney Foundation serving Minnesota and the Dakotas will benefit from the Golf Classic to be held on June 30, 2008, at Olympic Hills Golf Course. LGN is, again, a sponsor of what is called "the premier amateur golf event for charity." Monies raised are used to promote the detection, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease.

Bar Benefit Supported

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is pleased to support the Hennepin County Bar Foundation's 2008 Bar Benefit to be held on March 11 at the Radisson Plaza. The money raised every year by the foundation supports grants to various community organizations that provide legal services for the disadvantaged and educate the public about the law. The foundation also supports the improvement of the operations of courts in Hennepin County.

A Better Way for Juvenile Offenders

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a sponsor of the Juvenile Diversion Program, Northern Star Council. The program offers motivated first-time misdemeanor offenders with alternatives to formal court processing. Structured activities and community service help reduce the recidivism rate among the participants. LGN Partner Chris Sandberg serves as the Vice Chair of the Diversion Committee.

Stock the Shelves

Lockridge Grindal Nauen and Partner Ted Grindal are supporters of the effort to fill food shelves on the Iron Range. Minnesota Sentaor Tom Bakk (DFL, Cook) has joined with several Minnesota organizations to raise money for the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, Virginia.

LGN is a 2008 MGRC Sponsor

Lockridge Grindal Nauen has renewed its sponsorship of the Minnesota Governmental Relations Council. The council is a non-profit corporation that promotes and advances the ethical and professional standards of legislative representation.

ADA A Cure is in the Picture

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is, again, joining the fight against diabetes as a sponsor of the annual American Diabetes Association Gala. "Everyone is in the PICTURE," will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the St. Paul RiverCentre. Proceeds from the black-tie event support the ADA mission and Camp Needlepoint, a camping program for children with diabetes.

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is happy to support the Minnesota Manufactured Housing Association and the members who attend the annual meeting. The education programs offered to licensed residential contractors and real estate brokers raise the level of professionalism within the industry.

Minnesota's Irish-American Police Association

The Emerald Society of Minnesota (ESM) supports a variety of charities, including the Children's Program of Northern Ireland and the Minnesota Police Pipe Band. The Emerald Society of Minnesota is a fraternal organization of police officers and criminal justice professionals dedicated to achieving community goals throughout Minnesota.

Since 1965, the Children's Theatre Company (CTC), Minneapolis, has excelled in theatre for young people. LGN Adds to Building Fund

Lockridge Grindal Nauen and Partner Henri G. Minette are pleased to have contributed to the effort to build a new home for the House of God Trinity Christian Church in St. Paul. The non-denominational church has served the Hmong community throughout the Twin Cities for more than a decade. The congregation's goal is to build a church by 2010.

Teeing Off Against Breast Cancer

Lockridge Grindal Nauen took a swing at breast cancer awareness by sponsoring the annual Rally for the Cure Golf Outing at the Oak March Golf Course in Oakdale. Proceeds from the event went to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The foundation raises money for cancer research, community grants to provide care for those in need, and promotion of events across the nation that engage and enlighten millions of people every year.

Indian Summer Classic Supports Scholars

As a sponsor of the Indian Summer Classic, Lockridge Grindal Nauen supports the Bois Forte Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships and Public Education Gain LGN Support

Lockridge Grindal Nauen supports the Minnesota Veterinary Medicine Foundation, the philanthropic partner of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association. The foundation raises money for veterinary student scholarships, animal health and public and professional education.

LGN Sponsors Annual Twin Cities Cardozo Society Dinner

Lockridge Grindal Nauen sponsored the annual Twin Cities Cardozo Society dinner. The program included the presentation of the Sidney Barrows Lifetime Commitment Award to Hennepin County District Court Judge Allen Oleisky and Ramsey County District Court Judge Rosanne Nathanson. The keynote speaker for the evening was Linda Greenhouse, Supreme Court correspondent for the New York Times.

Eldercare – Lifelong Living

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a sponsor of Catholic Eldercare, Minneapolis, and the 5th Annual Annual Lifelong Living Luncheon. The luncheon at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, Brooklyn Center, raised funds to support services that enrich life for elders who are unable to live as they once did, but are capable of living fully in new ways that nourish the mind, body and spirit.

Spotlight on Penumbra Theatre Company

Lockridge Grindal Nauen celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Penumbra Theatre Company, St. Paul, a leader in the Black Arts Movement and one of the few African American theatres in the nation.

LGN Supports Special Olympics Minnesota

Lockridge Grindal Nauen joined Thomson West as a supporter of the 17th Annual Matt Blair Classic benefiting Special Olympics Minnesota. Special Olympics Minnesota offers year-round sports training and competition as a way of enhancing the quality of life for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic

In support of raising awareness and money to prevent kidney disease, Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a sponsor of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Golf Classic. The NKF goals include educating the public about kidney disease, supporting research, expanding patient services, providing continuing professional education, shaping health policy, and fund raising.

Funding Free Hearing Clinics

Lockridge Grindal Nauen and Ted Grindal, partner, are sponsors of the Annual International Hearing Foundation (IHF) Golf Classic. Since 1986, the IHF has been dedicated to improving the lives of the hearing impaired. Monies raised through the golf outing fund on-going efforts to increase public awareness of hearing, speech, and language impairments, including education and research programs.

Ojibwe Elders Benefit from Golf Event

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe hosts the Annual Chief Executive Elder Golf Tournament at the Grand National Golf Course, Hinkley. Lockridge Grindal Nauen is pleased to be a sponsor of the event that benefits the Mille Lacs Band Elders fund.

Remembering Senator Dallas Sams

It is with some sadness that Lockridge Grindal Nauen has contributed to the Staples & Motley Dollars for Scholars program as a way of remembering the service of the late Senator Dallas Sams to the people of Minnesota. Dollars for Scholars, a program with which Senator Sams was active, supports students bound for post-secondary education.

LGN Supports Hallie Q. Brown Center

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a contributor to the Hallie Q. Brown Center of St. Paul, one of the oldest African-American community service organizations in Minnesota. Since its inception in 1929, the center has provided educational, social, cultural, and human services activities for community residents of all ages. Today, Hallie Q. Brown thrives with a number of daily community and educational programs and has also been home to Penumbra Theatre.

LGN Supports the Arts

Ted Grindal, Lockridge Grindal Nauen partner, and the firm contributed to the Third Annual Cabaret event to raise money for the Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Minneapolis. 

Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a supporter of the Girl Scout Council of Greater Minneapolis, serving portions of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Isanti, Scott, Sherburne and Wright Counties in Minnesota. Girl Scouting prepares girls to face society's challenges with enthusiasm and strength.

Area Jewish Community Offers Hope and Support

Charles N. Nauen, Lockridge Grindal Nauen partner, and the firm sponsored a United Jewish Fund and Council (UJFC) of St. Paul Men’s Division Breakfast Series event. Those speaking at the meeting were a delegation of young people from Israel. The United Jewish Fund and Council works to enhance and unify the St. Paul area Jewish community and to strengthen ties with Jewish communities in Israel and throughout the world.

St. Paul Bicycle Racing Club

Lockridge Grindal Nauen is a proud sponsor of the St. Paul Bicycle Racing Club, an active local organization with over 200 members -- including a team of nationally ranked amateurs that train and race in St. Paul.
