News ReleasesSENATOR DAN LARSON RETURNS TO LGNJuly 9, 2008 This morning Senator Dan Larson sent Governor Pawlenty his letter of resignation effective November 5th. Senator Larson will return to Lockridge Grindal Nauen (LGN) July 21st. Dan worked at LGN in its Government Relations department from 1994 to 1998 before running for office. Senator Larson served four terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives before running and being elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2006. Dan has represented Bloomington, Richfield and south Minneapolis with distinction over the past decade. Dan will not be a registered lobbyist until his public service ends on November 5th. However, during this time, he will be a key part of our team in providing strategic advice to our clients and the firm. We are very excited to have Dan back at the firm in our Government Relations department. Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. (LGN) announces that, effective January 1, 2008, Robert C. Long will join the Minneapolis-based law firm as a partner practicing in the area of commercial litigation. He will provide counsel on real estate, business development and government relations, specializing in local government issues. “Bob Long brings to the firm years of experience in the public and private sectors in legal, government and corporate settings,” said Harry Gallaher, LGN managing partner. “He has a personal and professional commitment to urban development and community involvement. We’re pleased to have him on our team.” Long comes to LGN from NAI Welsh where, as Vice President of Corporate Services and Development, he led the Corporate Real Estate Services group and worked on urban redevelopment projects, including the successful Midtown Exchange Project (the former Sears Building) with Ryan Companies. He has been Of Counsel with the Unger Law Office, Minneapolis, focusing on two complex federal district court litigation matters involving constitutional issues arising from recent immigration raids in Minnesota. One of these cases involving the raids in Willmar, Minnesota, was ranked by Minnesota Law & Politics as the number one case in Minnesota this year. Long served for six years as a member of the St. Paul City Council, was a partner in the Kennedy & Graven Law Firm in Minneapolis for seven years, focusing on municipal law, public finance, and government affairs. He was a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General for three years working on complex consumer fraud litigation. He also worked as a law clerk for the Hennepin County Attorney, a staff aide to Former Mayor George Latimer in the St. Paul Mayor’s Office, and as the co-founder and first executive director of the Minnesota Justice Foundation, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary. In 1985, Long graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was the William O. Douglas Award winner for public interest law. He is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota and before the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota. He is a member of the State and Ramsey County Bar Associations. Long is a 1981 summa cum laude graduate of Macalester College, St. Paul, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Phi Beta Kappa key. Long’s community activities include serving on the boards of directors of Hope for the City and Gillette Children’s Hospital Foundation. He also is the vice-chair of St. Paul Youth Services and Eureka Recycling. Long resides in St. Paul, Minnesota, with his wife, Karen Sletten, who is also an attorney, and their children Nick and Katie. Long is the son of Martha Long, St. Peter, Minnesota. Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. (LGN) has named Yvonne M. Flaherty a partner in the Minneapolis-based law firm, effective January 1, 2008. Ms. Flaherty practices in the areas of products liability, pharmaceutical, medical device, antitrust, and commercial litigation. She is a member of the American Association for Justice, Minnesota Association for Justice, and the Minnesota State, Hennepin County, and Federal Bar associations. Ms. Flaherty is also active in a variety of complex litigations in both state and federal courts throughout the United States and serves on various litigation committees for Multidistrict and other complex litigation. Ms. Flaherty serves on the American Association for Justice Board of Governors, is the Chair-Elect for the Woman’s Caucus, Co-Chair of the Electronic Discovery Litigation Group, and Secretary of the Section on Toxic Environmental and Pharmaceutical Torts. She also serves on the Minnesota Association for Justice Executive Committee. Ms. Flaherty is a 1996 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law. (LGN) has been named the sponsor of the 2008 regional spelling bee, part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Qualified students from schools in Anoka, Dakota Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, Washington and most of Carver counties will compete in the regional competition on March 13 at a location to be determined. The winner of the regional spelling bee will go on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on May 28 and 29. “We’re pleased to make the 2008 regional spelling bee possible,” said Ted Grindal, LGN partner. “We heard that the event was in need of a sponsor. Our firm supports various education-related projects in Minnesota, and we have offices in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C. Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. (LGN) has named Elizabeth A. Emerson to the law firm’s Government Relations team. She is a lobbyist. Emerson comes to LGN from the Minnesota House of Representatives where she served as administrator for the House Commerce and Labor Committee, Labor and Consumer Protection Division and Telecommunications Regulation and Infrastructure Division. Emerson has been the legislative assistant to the House Assistant Minority Leader, now Majority Leader, and to three other representatives. In addition to her political and campaign experience, Emerson worked with the AmeriCorps VISTA program at Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis. In 2007, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman appointed Emerson to serve a two-year term on the city's Human Rights Commission. Emerson is a 2000 graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. She attended the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute and graduated in 2004 with a Master of Public Policy degree. Emerson lives in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was raised in Hawarden, Iowa. Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. (LGN) has named Hannah K. Bernhardt to the law firm’s Government Relations team. She will be based in Washington, D.C. Bernhardt comes to LGN from the district office of Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum. Bernhardt has served in the Consumer Division of the Minnesota Attorney General's office. She was a regional field organizer for the Minnesota DFL, and has written for the Minnesota Women's Press. Bernhardt earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she was awarded the Minnie Ryan Dwight Journalism Prize. Elizabeth R. Odette, Associate, Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. (LGN), has been named president-elect of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Minneapolis. Her one-year term began on October 1. She will become president of the civic organization in October 2008. Odette is a 2004 graduate of the University of St. Thomas School of Law. She was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 2004. Odette practices in the LGN complex litigation and class action group with a focus on securities and anti-trust litigation. She is a 2001 cum laude graduate of the University of St. Thomas where she earned a degree in marketing management. Odette resides in South Minneapolis.
