LGN Associate Matthew R. Salzwedel and Matthew B. Johnson recently published an article entitled The Incredible Shrinking Broker-Dealer: Applying the Uniform Commercial Code to Brokerage Firms Providing Commercial-Banking-Like Services on their Brokerage Accounts in the February 2010 issue of the Banking & Financial Services Policy Report. The article discusses the history and evolution of the United States commercial and investment banking industries and argues why broker-dealers that provide commercial-banking-like services on their brokerage accounts should be subject to the same U.C.C. provisions that govern commercial banks.  article

Judge sides with insurers against UnitedHealth's $400 million claim for reimbursement.

Judge Patrick J. Schiltz has dismissed UnitedHealth Group, Inc.'s claims against six insurers for reimbursement of about $400 million in settlement payments that United made with plan members.

Along with Steven M. Lazare and Jeremy Sokop of Lazare Potter & Giacovas in New York, LGN partner Eric C. Tostrud and associate David D. Leishman represented two of the prevailing insurers.  more
