Matthew Schafer has joined the government relations team as the firm's Grassroots Coordinator. In assuming this newly created position, Mr. Schafer brings more than five years of experience helping shape and influence legislation in the Washington, D.C., nonprofit arena. While employed with the Fleet Reserve Association, he played a key role in implementing aggressive grassroots and media campaigns resulting in passage of legislation authorizing pay hikes of up to 42 percent over five years for enlisted military personnel; increasing VA disability compensation for military retirees who were injured in the line of duty and significantly enhancing the military Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP). Mr. Schafer helps constituents communicate effectively with their elected officials and get results.
Originally from Evanston, Wyoming, Mr. Schafer served four years in the United States Marine Corps as a journalist covering military affairs in Washington, D.C., Okinawa, Japan, and South Korea. He graduated from Strayer University with a Bachelor of Science in Internetworking Technology, summa cum laude.
