Habitat for Humanity works in local communities across all 50 states in the US and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat builds strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing.

LGN collects books for Read Indeed Book Drive

Lockridge Grindal Nauen attorneys and staff collected over 100 books to donate to Read Indeed as part of a firm-wide book drive.

Read Indeed is a nonprofit literacy organization founded in 2009 by an 8 year old right here in Minnesota. Since its inception, Read Indeed had collected and distributed more than 3 million books to kids in need. The organization has donated books in all 50 states and 17 countries.

LGN collected a wide variety of gently-used and new professional clothing, accessories, and new personal care items as part of a clothing drive benefiting Ready for Success, a program of Project for Pride in Living (PPL). Ready for Success provides low-income women and men with these donated items which are suitable for both job interviews and the workplace.

Five LGN Attorneys named North Star Lawyers for Pro Bono Work

The Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) has recognized Stephanie Chen, Arielle Wagner, Kate Baxter-Kauf, Rachel Kitze Collins, Elizabeth Odette (not pictured) as North Star Lawyers for their pro bono work.

North Star Lawyers are MSBA members who have provided 50 hours or more of pro bono service to low-income individuals or organizations that serve economically disadvantaged individuals during the 2018 calendar year. Over 930 North Star Lawyers provided over 110,500 total hours of pro bono service with an estimated value of $27.6 million in free legal advice. Download the list of North Star Lawyers for 2018.

Lockridge Grindal Nauen completes over half of its 40440 service projects in honor of the firm’s 40th Anniversary

Lockridge Grindal Nauen’s 40440 initiative is halfway to its goal of completing 40 acts of service in honor of its 40th year in business.

From volunteer hours for local community organizations to donations to area non-profits, LGN attorneys, government relations professionals, and staff have completed over 20 acts of service so far.

Thank you again to all of the LGN attorneys and staff who helped with these projects and to the area non-profits who have partnered with us to kick off this initiative. LGN collects more than 200 pounds of food and $3,330 in cash donations for Neighborhood House food drive

LGN partners, attorneys, and staff raised more than $3,000 to support Neighborhood House’s annual food drive this spring. This effort, which LGN has supported for many years, is the latest in a series of projects the firm has undertaken as part of its 40 4 40 initiative. The initiative celebrates the firm’s 40th Anniversary through a series of forty service projects to support the communities where LGN employees live and work.

As part of its annual food drive, Neighborhood House, a Saint Paul-based non-profit, regularly shares nearly 1 million pounds of food with families throughout the city. LGN partner Rebecca Kanninen recently joined the Board of Directors for Neighborhood House. Thank you to everyone at LGN for supporting the drive.

LGNers help judge MN Urban Debate League Championship

LGN Attorneys and Law Clerks volunteered as judges at the Minnesota Urban Debate League’s All-Conference Championship for the MNUDL’s Middle School Program Northeast Conference on March 20, 2019. The tournament was the end of the season championship for middle school debaters from Battle Creek Middle School, Hazel Park Middle School, Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet, Ramsey Middle School, Murray Middle School, and Laura Jeffrey Academy.

LGN Partner Gregg Fishbein and Associate Kate Baxter-Kauf both serve on the Minnesota Urban Debate League’s Advisory Board. The MNUDL is a program of Augsburg University which provides resources and programming to support competitive academic debate in Twin Cities high schools and middle schools. The mission of MNUDL is to empower students through competitive academic debate to become engaged learners, critical thinkers, and active global citizens who are effective advocates for themselves and their communities. Currently, MNUDL serves more than 900 students at 39 partner schools and has seen sustained growth in student participation since its inception in 2004.

LGN Associates support Legal Aid

LGN Associates participated in the 2018-2019 Legal Aid Associates’ Campaign annual fundraising drive as part in the firm’s 40440 service campaign.  The campaign, which ran from December 17, 2018, to January 31, 2019, and is an integral source of funding for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid.

LGN Associate Kate Baxter-Kauf, who has led the campaign for the past several years, serves as both the firm captain and also as a Campaign Co-Chair, helping to facilitate the drive at law firms around Minnesota.  For the last two years, LGN Associates have had 100% participation in the drive and hope to achieve the same this year.

For 100 years, Legal Aid has worked in pursuit of helping Minnesota’s most vulnerable citizens gain access to their basic rights for safety, shelter, food, health care and education.  Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid provides legal services in 20 counties in Minnesota from offices in Minneapolis, St. Cloud and Willmar, and serves people with disabilities statewide.

LGN’s Greg Myers launches fundraising effort for Big Brothers Big Sisters

As part of its 40 4 40 campaign to celebrate forty years as a law firm, LGN partner Greg Myers created a fundraiser page for Big Brothers Big Sisters “Big Tackles” with Harrison Smith campaign and his page is on track to raise more than $3,700 for BBBS, with most of that coming from folks at LGN. More here

Greg serves on the board as chair of the Finance Committee for BBBS, which is also a client of LGN. The organization provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, 1-to-1 relationships with adults. The organization serves more than 4,000 Twin Cities youths through community-based mentoring, site-based mentoring, enrichment activities, college and career preparation events, workforce readiness offerings, and teen pregnancy prevention programming.

Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. celebrates 40th year in business with “40 4 40” year of service

Today, Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. is proud to celebrate its 40th year in business and 40 years of service to our clients and community.

As we celebrate our 40th year, we will also be renewing our long-standing commitment not only to our clients, but also the communities in which we work and call home.

As part of that commitment, LGN is launching the 40 4 40 Initiative. This initiative will commemorate the anniversary of the firm’s founding in 1978 through 40 acts of public service throughout 2019, including volunteering with organizations serving the communities in which we operate and support for local non-profits.

LGN attorneys, government relations professionals, and staff have already completed several projects, including:

  • A coat and winter apparel drive in Washington, D.C. where LGN attorneys joined our Federal Relations team in delivering several bags of donated winter coats, hats, and gloves to Central Union Mission.
  • LGN’s employment law team partnered last week with St. Stephen’s Human Services to prepare and serve a meal at a local shelter in Minneapolis.

LGN’s employment law team preps and serves meals at St. Stephens

LGN attorneys and staff, including the firm’s employment law team, took part in the firm’s 40440 community service initiative last week when they partnered with St. Stephen’s Human Services to prepare and serve a meal at a local shelter in Minneapolis.

LGN Partner Susan Ellingstad, who also serves on the board of St. Stephens, along with David Asp, Anna Horning Nygren, Rachel Kitze Collins, Jennifer Jacobs, Heather Potteiger, Samantha Girard, Stephen Owen, Rick Linsk, and Sherri Juell all took part in the service project.

Since the 1960s, St. Stephens has worked to offer programs supporting the poor and homeless in the Twin Cities. In the last year alone they have served over 1,918 adults and 651 families, providing shelter, housing support, and other services to those in need.

LGN D.C. team coat drive supports Central Union Mission

As part of LGN’s 40440 initiative, the firm’s Washington, DC-based Federal Relations team was joined by attorneys Karen Hanson Riebel, Heidi Silton, Anna Horning Nygren, and Simeon Morbey to deliver several bags of donated winter coats, hats, and gloves to Central Union Mission in our nation’s capitol.

Central Union Mission provides a safe shelter, hot meals, medical care, job training and compassionate care to help transform lives in the Washington D.C. metro area.
