Derek Waller represents health care providers, businesses, and patients in a variety of disputes related to reimbursement, coverage, and regulatory compliance. Through litigation in federal and state courts, he has successfully resolved disputes and recovered payments for health care providers and patients. He has handled matters involving ERISA, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, the No Suprises Act, the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, the Minnesota Health Records Act, the Stark and Anti-kickback laws, and the False Claims Act. In addition, he has advised health care providers on issues related to antitrust, consumer protection, nonprofit, and employment law.
Derek was recognized as an Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer in 2025 and as a Minnesota North Star Lawyer for his pro bono service every year since 2022. He has handled pro bono matters with the ACLU of Minnesota, through the Volunteer Lawyers Network, and the Minnesota Appellate Public Defenders Office.
