After graduating from William Mitchell College of Law, summa cum laude, in 1990, he served clerkships for the Honorable Edward J. Devitt, U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, and for the Honorable George E. MacKinnon, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He then returned to LGN as an associate from 1992 to 1997 and as a partner until 2014. He has continued with LGN in an Of Counsel role while serving on the full-time faculty at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where he teaches in the areas of federal jurisdiction and federal court procedure, as the Distinguished Practitioner in Residence.
