LGN attorneys Susan E. Ellingstad and Stephen M. Owen recently presented at the 2023 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute. Susan and Stephen co-presented a seminar titled Job Descriptions, Applications and Postings – What Can and Must an Employer Do and Say? Susan additionally presented a seminar titled How to Conduct a Public Sector Workplace Investigation – A-Z.
Lockridge Grindal Nauen P.L.L.P. associate attorney Catherine Peterson and her unit were thrilled to receive a care package, which included popcorn, from LGN.

LGN Partners Karen Riebel and Kate Baxter-Kauf attended the Class of Our Own Women’s Summit in Nashville on May 7-9, 2023. The Inaugural Class of Our Own Women’s Summit was a 3-day event featuring female leaders in the legal industry and plaintiffs’ bar. Kate was featured as a Summit Speaker to present on a panel regarding attorney-client privilege and work product protection in class action litigation, while Karen was recognized for her fantastic work as co-lead counsel in one of the largest consumer data breach settlements reached.
LGN Attorney Kyle Pozan participated in a panel discussion at The Sedona Conference Working Group 1 on Electronic Document Retention and Production (WG1). He joined Scott Milner, Robb Snow, and the Hon. Young B. Kim to discuss ESI Protocol trends, common friction points, and potential solutions for those disputes.

LGN Partner David Zoll joined a panel of land use experts with the Sensible Land Use Coalition to discuss comprehensive planning. David’s presentation focused on the potential implications of pending litigation which could subject local planning activities to new challenges in the courts.

KEEP ROLLING: AFTER PROVIDING AUTOMATIC EXPUNGEMENT FOR CERTAIN MARIJUANA OFFENSES MINNESOTA SHOULD ENACT AUTOMATIC EXPUNGEMENT FOR OTHER CRIMINAL RECORDS
The racially discriminatory impact from the War on Drugs is clear,[1] and while marijuana legalization is one step in addressing the inequities of America’s criminal justice system, the work does not end there. States should also enact broader expungement reforms. This 2023 session, Minnesota is likely going to legalize recreational marijuana.[2] The current House bill (Cannabis Bill) would automatically expunge[3] lower offenses of marijuana use after an individual meets certain requirements.[4] As state legislatures increasingly consider recreational marijuana legalization, activists argue those bills must include proposals to help people easily expunge their records, like the Cannabis Bill provision.[5] As a result, marijuana legalization is a groundbreaking area for criminal justice reform and should be utilized to advance other criminal record reform.[6]
